One of the Wii's best platformers is now available on 3DS, with additional levels to boot. It's great stuff: players leap between foreground and background, are fired from cannons, ride mine carts and jetpack across gaps. Returns is an incredibly challenging game so this edition introduces the option to receive extra hearts and other bonuses. Out now.
JACOB JONES AND THE BIGFOOT MYSTERY [G]
iOS/Vita, $2.99
Rating: 4/5
iOS/Vita, $2.99
Rating: 4/5
Set in a mysterious summer camp, players interact with oddball characters and solve stand-alone puzzles. The dialogue is definitely a highlight: well written, fully voiced and amusing, but it's the incredible presentation that steals the show. The puzzles are solid but don't expect many surprises. Out now.
POKEMON MYSTERY DUNGEON: GATES TO INFINITY [PG]
3DS, $69.95
Rating: 2/5
3DS, $69.95
Rating: 2/5
Players embark on a quest to save the Pokemon world as a Pokemon in Gates to Infinity. Sadly, being a Pikachu just isn't as much fun as one might think, and gameplay is largely comprised of dull combat in randomly generated dungeons. Gates to Infinity just isn't that compelling. Out now.
ANOMALY 2
PC, $15
Rating: 4/5
PC, $15
Rating: 4/5
The original Anomaly turned the tables on the tower defence genre. Instead of defending, players attacked, moving from A to B, destroying towers along the way. As commander in the field, players repaired, purchased and upgraded units on the fly, playing an active role. Anomaly 2 has some neat twists, such as units that transform, and stellar presentation. It also introduces an excellent multiplayer mode. Out now.
